Antigua and Barbuda Promoted at Movie Premiere in New York City
(New York, NY, September 17, 2010) Antigua and Barbuda continues to be promoted as a premiere Romance destination. Last Friday, the twin island getaway, well recognized for its magnificent views and romantic sunsets, was promoted at a private screening of the Movie The Romantics’ (2010). The red carpet event which was held at the Regal Theatres at Union Square, in New York City, attracted more than 500 tastemakers, including top ranking officials from the film industry.
During this reception designed to promote products and services with a romantic theme, Antigua and Barbuda joined over 20 vendors including, Victoria Secrets, Godiva, The Bahamas Tourist Board and Swarovski. This exclusive audience received the Antigua and Barbuda “Boarding Pass” a one-page promotional piece that provides visitors with destination highlights and travel tips.
US Marketing and Sales Manager, Dean Fenton, who led the team effort, indicated that the event provided an opportunity to engage this well traveled audience and to promote some of the unique elements that Antigua and Barbuda has to offer. “The event generated significant traffic and many guests were already familiar with some of Antigua and Barbuda’s award winning hotels. It gave us an opportunity to promote our fall and winter packages and to highlight Antigua and Barbuda as the “Romance Capital of the Caribbean” with the ability to facilitate same day weddings.”
The Romantics is a generational comedy, where seven close friends, all members of a close knit, eclectic college clique, reunite for the seaside wedding of two of their friends. Problems arise because the bride and the maid of honor have had a long rivalry over the groom. Friendships and alliances are tested and the love triangle comes to a head the night before the wedding, as the friends frolic in a nearby surf and return to shore….without the groom.
The movie features Katie Holmes, Anna Paquin, Josh Duhamel, Malin Akerman and Candice Bergen, best known for her starring role on the sitcom Murphy Brown. The movie staged on the shores of Long Island, is based on its heralded namesake novel The Romantics, by Galt Niederhoffer, who also serves as the movie’s producer and director.
Leading lady, Katie Holmes and her husband Tom Cruise stopped by to greet fans before they walked the red carpet at the New York premiere of 'The Romantics. The Cruises also stopped by the Antigua and Barbuda booth to express their love for the Caribbean and their interest in visiting the destination in the near future, with their daughter Suri.
